Our objective is to create a multi-purpose community center that will bring our citizens and neighbors in the greater Archer and Alachua County communities together.

The Archer Community Center is now open and available to rent for your next function! Contact City Hall for more information.

RESTORATION

In 1936/37 the existing brick building Archer High School Gymnasium was constructed under the Works Progress Administration (WPA/PWA) and was originally the gymnasium for the old Archer High School. It is a link to the history and memories of many of the residents of Archer.

In 2003, the plans for the five-acre parcel of land at the old Archer High School site located on the corner of Church Street and Hwy 27/41 came by way of the Florida Community Design Center, Volunteer Tom Smith and others along with then-Commissioner Roberta Campbell Lopez, the City of Archer Commissioners and Staff.  As the plans changed the City of Archer secured the services of Brame Architect to complete the project.

Broadly conceived, the multi-purpose Community Center will be a gathering place for weddings/receptions, elderly programs, youth and teen activities, theatrical and musical performances, club meetings, arts and crafts, indoor recreation, and other special events.

Mrs. Lopez was a driving force behind the restoration of the Archer Community Center since 2003. She has taken the project from a dilapidated structure used as a public works facility by the City of Archer to a completed restored Historic structure which serves the citizens of Archer and people in and around Alachua County as a multi-purpose community center. With the supervision of Mrs. Lopez, the project raised over $900,000 in cash, in-kind and grant funds to help complete the project.
