  OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER

 

The City Manager is the administrative head of the municipal government. He directs and supervises all the Departments of the City. He is to efficiently manage municipal services. It is the responsibility of the City Manager to carry out the policies established by the City Commission including the enforcement of municipal laws and ordinances. The City Manager prepares and submits the annual budget, budget message, and capital program in accordance with the City Charter. The City Manager recommends policy to the City Commission; coordinates with agencies at other levels of government; and coordinates local emergency planning and management. The City Manager is appointed by the City Commission.

 

City Manager John Glanzer was appointed by the City Commission in 2009. Mr. Glanzer has served over 21 years in municipal government in Alachua County. In addition to being City Manager, Mr. Glanzer also serves as City Clerk, Codes Director, Personnel Officer, City Planner and Zoning Administrator. Mr. Glanzer has also served on the Governors Strategic Aggregates Task Force, Florida League of Mayors, and Alachua County Visioning Committee. Mr. Glanzer is also a member of the Florida City and County Management Association. In addition to serving in municipal government Mr. Glanzer retired from 30 years in the commercial printing profession in 2004, seventeen of those years as owner of Glanzer Press. Mr. Glanzer moved to Alachua County from Boynton Beach in 1974 after attending Florida State University. Mr. Glanzer has been married to his wife Joy for 31 years and has raised four children in the town of Newberry.
