Bo Diddley

Known as "The Originator", Bo Diddley was, arguably, THE flashpoint of Rock n' Roll. He took the Blues, infused them with his distinctive rythym signature, and forever changed the art form known as rock 'n roll. As a singer and songwriter he was a direct influence on many of the greatest artists in rock history. The "Bo Diddley Beat" directly inspired the likes of Buddy Holly, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Bruce Springsteen, U2, George Thorogood, and countless others. Bo Diddley died of heart failure on June 2, 2008. He was 79.

Bo called Archer home. He was a wonderful family man, local citizen, as well as a national treasure. Bo took great pride in his family and was extremely involved in helping local youth create a better life.

On May 24th, 2010 the City Commission voted in favor of a Proclamation declaring his birthday, December 30th, as Bo Diddley Day in the City of Archer. On hand for the ceremony were several members of Bo's family as well as the pastor of his church. The city plans to develop events centered around this date to commemorate the life of this musical innovator and legend who truly impacted the world.
